"The things of God knows no man, but the Spirit of God" by Gary Kelly, December 21, 2015

gtyu.jpgIf "eternal life" is "knowing God and Jesus Christ" as Jesus defined in John 17:3, and not our doing what we consider righteousness (Isaiah 64:6) or being worthy, where Jesus may proclaim "I never knew you" (Matthew 7: 7:20-27), how are we to “know” God and have a relationship with Him? Since Scripture is the ultimate authority, whether one humbly admits it or pride and ego do not, this collection from the Word of God is not meant to only challenge our worldly wisdom, but primarily to increase our spiritual wisdom. He that has ears to hear, let him hear. (Luke 8:8)

Psalms 51:6 - Behold, you desire truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part you shall make me to know wisdom.

1 Corinthians 2:6-16 - Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to naught: But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God has prepared for them that love him. But God has revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searches all things, yea, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knows no man, but the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teaches, but which the Holy Ghost teaches; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man receives not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he that is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.

Just as God is a Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, we are also 3 in 1. This is what the Lord means when He says we are "created in His image." (Genesis 1:27)

1 Thessalonians 5:18-23 - In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. Quench not the Spirit. Despise not prophesying. Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. Abstain from all appearance of evil. And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Although Adam's body was created from "dust of the ground," he did not become a “living soul” until God "breathed into his nostrils the breath of life.” There is a reason God did not speak us into existence, as He did the vegetation, animals, moon and stars. Instead, He chose to create us out of the Earth. He shaped us from the soil.

Genesis 2:7 - And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Job 10:11 - Thou hast clothed me with skin and flesh, and hast fenced me with bones and sinews.

We are not just a soul with a body. We are first and foremost a spirit, clothed with a body, and a living soul. God, Who is a Spirit (John 4:24) designed and created us in His image, a spirit, so it is our spirit that God communicates and has a relationship with, not our intellect.

1 Corinthians 2:14 - But the natural man receives not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Why did Jesus, after spending 3 years with His Disciples say to them "I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now?" (John 16:12) Because as Jesus followed up: "Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come." (John 16:13)

Acts 2:1-4 - And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Below are but a few supporting Scriptures and the answer to "What shall we do?" The ultimate intention is your relationship with He Who created you.

Proverbs 20:27 - The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly.

John 3:5-7 - Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

John 4:24 - God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

Job 32:8-10 - But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty gives them understanding. Great men are not always wise: neither do the aged understand judgment. Therefore I said, Hearken to me; I also will show mine opinion.

Ecclesiastes 12:7 - Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.

James 2:26 - For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

Another Scripture to dwell on. Recall how God breathed into the nostrils of Adam…What did Jesus do in the same manner?

John 20:21-22 - Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father has sent me, even so send I you. And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:

1 John 5:7-8 - For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word (John 1:1-14), and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.

1 Corinthians 15:40 - And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.

Luke 17:20-21 - And when he (Jesus) was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God comes not with observation: Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.

Romans 7:24-8:16 - O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin. There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, He that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwells in you. Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God.

After Peter, the one who denied Christ 3 times, just weeks later boldly spoke and as a result the people who "gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls." (Acts 2:41)

Acts 2:37-39 - Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

Acts 19:1-6 - ...Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism. Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
