The Compromised Church: the Church of Today More Resembles a Social Club Rather Than the First Century Church by Lyle Rapacki, August 9, 2018
The church at-large is at a point well below the New Testament standard presented by Jesus Himself, and carried forward by His apostles to the First Century Church. While revivals and God’s Hand have moved across the face of the earth, especially across America, the chasm between God’s Word and the word of the world is enlarging more quickly, tragically and significantly. The focus among modern Christianity is more social than spiritual minded. We have lost the art of worship. We have lost the art of prayer – corporate, individual and intercessory. Church has become a weekly event where a pastor’s objective truth is interspersed with song and other forms of religious entertainment. We are not producing followers of Christ as much as followers of man. Jesus Christ called mankind to carry a cross; today followers of the Bible are called to have fun in His name. Jesus called mankind to forsake the things of the world for the things of Heaven, today the message is that Christians are owed the things of the world and can seek them; oh, and the ways of Christ, too! Jesus called mankind to walk a disciplined life in submission to our Heavenly Father; this teaching, too, is outdated and a little too strong for today’s followers. So…the compromised message today is to enjoy life and all the comforts one can afford, seek happiness rather than holiness.
Jesus did NOT preach legalism and bondage; neither was He against having a great smile or laugh. He enjoyed fellowship, and even a party or two – remember Jesus attending a wedding, and even turning water into a very fine wine better tasting than what had been served. But Jesus did not preach, “Blessed are they that tolerate everything, for they shall not be made accountable for anything.” We who have accepted Jesus as Lord are called to be representatives of Him and His full Gospel message; we are not to become negotiators of the truth. Darkness and light can never be made into one; nor can you negotiate the Gospel of Christ with the gospel of humanism, social progressiveness nor Marxism. Nor was Jesus “politically correct.” Jesus spoke truth. He was candid. He was clear. He was also kind and gracious, patient and always ready to forgive, heal, and encourage the person to move onward into their purpose in life. But man’s ways are not God’s ways. Attempting to bring them together in that order is a seduction. Such is the sorry state of the church today.
Arise! Awake! For those who have ears to hear, and eyes to see…a Remnant Church is Arising across the Land, indeed, across the globe. This is not a theatrical statement nor theory. The Remnant Church is Arising, and it is much similar to the First Century Church as described in the Book of Acts.
